It has officially been announced that Caitlyn Jenner will appear on the upcoming third season of Amazon's "Transparent."
The 66-year-old reality star and transgender icon will start filming scenes for the comedy next week. "Transparent," which stars Jeffrey Tambor and is about a father of three adult children who comes out as a transgender woman, has been a huge success. The series' creator, Jill Soloway, has described Jenner's casting as a "dream come true."
"We are all part of the same community," Soloway said at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday. "A lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, 'I Am Cait.' Lots of crossover. Lots of friends." It is unclear what role Jenner will be playing in the show.
While at the GLAAD Awards, Jenner's hit E! Network reality series "I Am Cait" won the award for Outstanding Reality Show. It tied with TLC's "I Am Jazz," which is also about a transgender girl. In Jenner's acceptance speech, she praised her co-stars and friends for being with her every step of the way on this journey so far.
"You girls have been my backbone, you've taught me so much," she said. "I've learned so much from you over this year. You're my absolute best friends and I know you always have my back and it's been so wonderful to work with you. And I know when we finished season two, I mean, I was literally crying because I couldn't stand just going through life without you girls around."
The docuseries "I Am Cait" was renewed for its second season in October following the success of the first season which followed Jenner as she made her transition from Bruce and touched upon many of the issues facing the transgender community.
"I'm looking forward to continuing the conversation," she tweeted following the announcement of the shows renewal.
"Caitlyn's story has ignited a global conversation on the transgender community on a scale that has never been seen before," Jeff Olde, E!'s EVP of programming and development, said at the time. "We are honored Caitlyn has chosen to continue to share her ongoing story with our viewers around the world."
