"Community" one of the most talked about and most meta sitcoms of the past decade is on its way back for a surprising 5th season. After a bevy of controversy behind the scenes of the show, all of the original pieces that made the show great are back in place (with some exceptions) and the show is looking to do a "re-piloting" of itself to get back on its feet.
"This is the biggest crisis since we held that rally protesting the wrong Korea," Dean Pelton, played by Oscar-winner Jim Rash, says in the "Beyond the Darkest Timeline" trailer, posted below.
Season 5 will be a significant moment for the show as it will be the first episode back in the hands of the series' original creator Dan Harmon. Harmon was fired after the show's third season for various reasons, not the least of which had to do with his very public feud with co-star Chevy Chase, who ended up leaving the show midway through Season 3. Harmon played some angry voicemails that Chase had left him in public and soon enough the actor's distaste for the show and its creator became public. Citing some other offenses, Harmon was given the boot by NBC followed by a fourth season of the show that many fans felt was a complete debacle. This caused NBC to go back to Harmon and give him creative control once again. This means, that the one hour premiere on Jan. 1, 2014 will be the debut of Harmon back at the helm of the show.
The trailer seems to hint at a lot of storylines and strange directions that the show will go in now that the character's four years at Greendale Community College are coming to a close. In addition, there is a subtle joke regarding Zach Braff's departure from the show "Scrubs." The series tried to do a spinoff/continuation in which the star only appeared in six episodes. Troy, played by Donald Glover, seemed the most outraged about it saying "After all that Scrubs did for him!" What makes this funny is that Braff's departure was almost identical to what Glover will be doing after just a few episode of season 5.
