The fourth season of "Inside Amy Schumer" is taking on the hottest ticket on Broadway, "Hamilton." In the first full-length clip from the upcoming season, Schumer invites the writer and star of the musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, to check out her new project, a musical all about another important historical figure - Betsy Ross.
The clip starts out with Schumer practicing for her new musical with a group of backup dancers when Miranda walks in. After gushing over the success of "Hamilton," Schumer reveals that she decided to write and star in her own "hip-hop" musical about Betsy Ross, who she calls "Bethany Ross."
"How hard is it to write a hip-hopera about historical wig and knee sock people?" Schumer asks Miranda.
Schumer showed Miranda exactly what she had in mind for her historical musical, which sounded a lot like some of the songs from "Hamilton" and ripped off the melodies of famous pop songs like "Bitch Better Have My Money," "Shake It Off" and "Hot in Herre."
Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, are both huge fans of Miranda's work and have been to the show twice in a five-month span. The skit was inspired by Caramele's love for the musical.
"It's actually a problem," Schumer said of her sister's obsession with the musical. "She'll put the soundtrack on at any, sometimes inappropriate time."
While Miranda is a very busy man, Caramele, who also wrote the skit, said that he was amazing on set.
"He said yes and I thought he was kidding," she said. "He couldn't have been nicer and more game. He has so few hours free! I was so grateful he was there."
In addition to writing the sketch, Caramele also stars in the "Inside Amy Schumer" video along with The Roots drummer Questlove. Despite working on all four seasons of the Comedy Central show, Caramele said that she was very nervous to appear in the actual sketch.
"Whenever Amy makes me be in a scene, I'm always worried I'm going to waste people's time and blow it," Caramele said. "She makes me laugh so hard that I really do ruin a lot of takes. In my defense, she does it on purpose. You can't tell Amy not to make you laugh, she'll go at you even harder because she thinks it's funny."
"I went at it really hard," Schumer responded. "I love making her laugh and break on camera."
"Inside Amy Schumer" premieres Thursday, April 21, at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
