LG Optimus G, under Elisa's carrier-ship has received Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat update in Estonia, leaving LG's flagship G2 smartphone users in the dark about the update.
Android smartphones have been on their toes to get the latest Android update KitKat 4.4 since it was announced last month. Nexus owners have the luxury of being the first line of devices to receive any update from Google, but the same cannot be said about other Android devices around the world. Most smartphone making companies are yet to roll-out the KitKat update to their smartphone lineup after making necessary modifications.
Flagship smartphones get first preference for any updates, but this seems not to be the case in Estonia. LG announced Wednesday that its smartphone model from last year, the Optimus G has been selected for the Android KitKat roll-out. LG G2 is the company's flagship smartphone with high-end specifications, but there is no news on when the KitKat update will arrive for its users.
"The good news for the LG Optimus G smartphone users-Android 4.4 KitKat update, and thereby also the 4 g internet is now available," the South Korean smartphone maker said in LG Electronics Estonia Facebook page.
It is unclear why the KitKat update has arrived on the older flagship smartphone instead of LG G2, which is stuck on Android 4.2.2 but media reports speculate it may be a part of "beta testing."
The update roll-out to LG Optimus G is also limited to only one carrier, Elisa. Other carriers have not received any information about the update but since the roll-out has already begun for Optimus G, it shouldn't be too long before other smartphones in the area get the update.
According to TheDroidGuy, an Estonian Elisa customer revealed that the users are required to send their Optimus G to the service center where the phones are flashed with the KitKat update. So, it is not only strange that the update has arrived on an older model but the process of updating the smartphone is also unique.
