Breshad Perriman Not 100%, Could Effect Ravens' Draft Plans

The Baltimore Ravens suffered a big blow when first overall draft pick Breshad Perriman was unable to perform the way that they had envisioned when they drafted him.

Perriman has a complicated injury which was originally thought to be minor, however it turns out that he had a partially torn PCL which effectively ended his 2015 season and puts his ability to participate in offseason workouts into serious jeopardy.

Perriman has started running but not even close to full speed, so it will take some time for him to regain his natural burst. Perriman missing all of his rookie season and following it up by missing most of minicamp would be a nightmare as the rookie still has a lot of developing to do if he hopes to lead this receiving corps one day.

The Ravens in 2015 had a brutal season in regards to injuries on both sides of the football but especially on offense as their starting quarterback Joe Flacco tore both his ACL and MCL, Steve Smith tore his Achilles, and Darren Waller/Michael Campanaro went down with injuries as well which forced them all onto the injured reserve list.

This wide receiving corps stepped up each time a player went down with injuries, but when you factor in the severity of Perriman and Smith's injuries it is fair to ask if they could even be the same players they once were.

The Ravens would once again have to draft a top-tier wide receiver in the first or second round, and currently there are too many holes on the roster to draft another receiver. They need a defensive end or pass-rushing linebacker since their defensive leader, Terrell Suggs, tore his Achilles as well during the 2015 season.

The Ravens could look to draft a wide receiver in the second round, and there are plenty of options to choose from. This draft class actually has more second round receivers than any other round in the top four, so we should see plenty of teams look to grab a solid wide receiver at some point during the NFL's biggest offseason event.

The Ravens could look to select Will Fuller out of Notre Dame, Josh Doctson out of TCU or Michael Thomas out of Ohio State as they should be the most productive receivers left as the second day of the draft begins. The Ravens must find a way to get Perriman healthy while fortifying both sides of the ball if they hope to compete in the division during the 2016 season.
