Facebook Inc. is reportedly in talks with Apple to bring its recently launched "Home" software to iPhones, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Facebook Home, which was launched for Google's Android operating system earlier this month, may be paving its way to other platforms such as Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone. Since majority of Facebook users access their accounts through their Smartphones, the world's largest networking site is aiming on boosting its revenue by focusing more on mobile related apps. Facebook's product director Adam Mosseri, in an interview with Bloomberg West, revealed its ongoing talks with Apple. He said that nothing has been finalized yet.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, spoke about the "great relationship" his company shares with Apple during the launch of "Home" software.
"We are integrated into the operating system with them," Zuckerberg said. "We have an active dialogue to do more with them."
There has been no confirmation from either Apple or Microsoft about sharing its platform with the "Home" software. Spokespersons from both the companies declined to comment, as Bloomberg reported.
The Facebook "Home" software is currently available for Android Smartphones integrated with Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich version. If the reports of Facebook expanding to other platforms comes true, then Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone users will be able to enjoy the software on their latest devices.
Mosseri noted that if the "Home" is introduced in Apple, users will see a different version of the software than Android.
"It may or may not be Home," he said. "We could also just bring some of the design values to the iOS app. That might be how it ends up. Or we could build just the lock screen. Maybe then it's not called Home, it's called something else."
