Instagram Direct: In Addition To New Feature, App Launches a 2013 Year In Review, Bieber Has The Most Popular Photo of 2013 (PHOTO)

Instagram blew up in popularity over the course of 2013 with millions and millions of photos being uploaded to the app every day. Now it seems that the people behind the popular social app have tallied what image, out of the cadre that were uploaded this year, received the most likes - and the answer may not surprise you.

Justin Bieber had the most liked picture on Instagram in 2013 with more than 1.5 million likes for a picture he snapped with none other than Will Smith or "Uncle Will" as the caption for the photo reads.

The app released the news on Friday along with a bevy of other end-of-the-year statistics including the most Instagrammed locations and hashtags.

The Bieber image, posted outside of a house in August, shows the young singer and smith posing together making a sideways "peace" sign. The photo went out to Bieber's more than 12 million followers, from there the fans did the rest. According to Fox News, Bieber has posted 1,168 photos to his Instagram account.

According to the app, about 55 million photos are uploaded to the network each day from various locations around the world. The photo-sharing giant also released an update yesterday that lets users send direct messages to each other, expanding the scope of the app as a social network that is capable of communication.

Other stats from Instagram's 2013 year in review include the most Instagrammed location being the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok Thailand. The most Instagrammed city was New York City and the busiest day for the application was Thanksgiving/the first day of Hannukah.
