The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly pursuing a trade with the Toronto Raptors for guard Kyle Lowry. Mason Plumlee, Jason Terry and draft picks are floating around as possible pieces for the deal, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Brooklyn appears to be gaining traction in a potential deal for Lowry after New York Knicks owner James Dolan reportedly vetoed a trade between his team and the Raptors.
"Toronto could try to wait out the Nets' inclusion of a 2020 first-round draft pick or rookie center Mason Plumlee, but is doubtful Brooklyn will pay such a steep price," Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski wrote on Friday. "Jason Terry has been raised in talks, too, but only as part of a deal that includes young players or draft assets."
ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk also reported the Nets' rights to European guard Bojan Bogdanovic could be another bargaining chip in the potential Lowry trade.
One holdup for any potential deal is, like the Knicks, the Nets' unwillingness to part with a future draft pick for Lowry. Brooklyn doesn't want to offer their 2020 first round pick for Lowry, according Youngmisuk.
Lowry, 27, is averaging 14.6 points and 6.7 assists per game this season; his contract expires in July.
The Raptors are looking to rebuild with draft picks and young players. Toronto offloaded Andrea Bargnani's contract to the Knicks over the summer and recently traded Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings.
The Knicks, meanwhile, are reportedly trying to convince Dolan to allow the trade of Raymond Felton, Metta World Peace and a 2018 first-round draft pick in exchange for Lowry.
Both Yahoo! Sports and the New York Daily News reported on Thursday that Dolan had vetoed the trade because he was worried what the public would think. Per Wojnarowski:
"Knicks owner Jim Dolan is sensitive to the public perception that Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri bamboozled New York in the Carmelo Anthony trade, and the chance of getting panned for giving up too much in a deal for Lowry has become a hurdle in these talks, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
