The Dallas Cowboys have been a source of much speculation around the NFL in terms of who they will take with the fourth overall pick in the first round. Dallas is somewhat of a wild card when it comes down to who they can select because they have a lot of needs on both sides of the ball.
The most prominent need seems to be a prominent pass rusher. Ever since Demarcus Ware signed with the Denver Broncos, Dallas has lacked a prized pass rusher in their defensive unit. They could potentially remedy this in the first round if they select defensive ends Joey Bosa, DeForest Buckner or Shaq Lawson.
All three have had pre-draft visits with the Cowboys and are well within the top 10 prospect range. The problem for the Cowboys is that they pick so high, so taking a player such as Lawson would be considered a surprising move, especially if they did not trade down and acquire extra picks or players.
They also had visits with defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and defensive end Kevin Dodd, who could also be selected in the top 15. There has also been talk of the Cowboys taking their future quarterback, even though that is in direct opposition of the "win now" philosophy that they possess.
The Cowboys likely want to take a look at the future signal callers of the NFL, regardless if they take one or not, simply to see who these prospects really are. The first round names are obvious- Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch- but when you look at the other prospects, things start to look interesting.
Connor Cook, Christian Hackenberg and Jacoby Brissett all had visits with the Cowboys, and all fall between the second and seventh round. Dallas may be looking for a quality backup in the draft if a player that they have not visited with is available. Brissett or Dak Prescott would also make interesting middle round selects as a backup signal caller.
The Cowboys also brought in some of the top wide receivers and running backs heading into this year's draft. The obligatory first round players had their visits such as wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry.
Dallas had some interesting visits with some second to fourth round prospects that could potentially make this roster very deadly. Running backs Kenyan Drake, Paul Perkins and C.J. Prosise were the visiting middle-round running backs while Will Fuller and Tyler Boyd were the wide receivers, who they could select in the second or third round.
Lastly, they met with first round defensive backs Jalen Ramsey and Vernon Hargreaves, but there was only one other defensive back in the draft that visited the Cowboys: strong safety Karl Joseph from West Virginia. The Cowboys predominantly select pre-draft visitors as their picks, so there is a very good chance that some of the players end up on the roster.
