The Phoenix Suns have been one of the worst teams in the NBA this season and, at this point, they cannot wait for it to end. The Suns came into this season with the hopes of competing for a playoff spot, but that didn't even come close to happening, and now they enter the offseason with a lot of questions.
Despite having the fourth worst record in the NBA, the Suns still like their core and don't believe they need to blow up the roster. Phoenix has dealt with a lot of injuries to key players this season and that is a big reason for the hugely disappointing year. One of the players that missed a chunk of time this season was Tyson Chandler and he has said he is confident the team does not need to go through a rebuild.
If the Suns get everyone back healthy for next season, they should be pretty formidable, but they will still have some work to do. The Suns will likely be on the lookout for star players in free agency and via trades, but they also have free agents of their own to decide on. Mirza Teletovic may be the most noteworthy free agent they have coming up and the Suns would like him back.
Teletovic is in his first season with the Suns after he signed a one-year deal this past offseason. Teletovic only received a one-year deal because he dealt with blood clots in his final season with the Brooklyn Nets, but he has proven he is over them. The 30-year-old forward has had a very good season and set the single season NBA record for most three-pointers made off the bench, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that General Manager Ryan McDonough wants him back.
In speaking about Teletovic's impending free agency, McDonough also seemed confident that Teletovic wants to be back in Phoenix, saying he has had a good experience there. The Bosnian forward made $5.5 million on his deal this year, but will likely be due a raise next season. The fact that Teletovic is a 6-foot-9 power forward that shot the ball at a 40 percent clip from deep should mean that he garners a lot of interest in free agency.
If the Suns really want to keep Teletovic, they will likely have to pay a fairly hefty price because there are plenty of teams that can use what he brings to the table. Stretch fours are some of the hottest commodities in the NBA and Teletovic happens to be one, so it will be interesting what kind of deal he gets and with whom that deal is. The Suns seem pretty confident it will be them.
