The Cleveland Browns have begun their offseason workouts as the team looks to rebuild from the ground up. The Browns have lost a ton of quality talent on both sides of the roster this offseason and are looking like one of the more desperate teams for talent as we head into the 2016 NFL Draft.
The Browns saw veteran center Alex Mack depart to the Atlanta Falcons, starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz left for the Kansas City Chiefs, starting wide receiver Travis Benjamin signed a four-year deal with the San Diego Chargers, free safety Tashaun Gipson signed a five-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and defensive captain Karlos Dansby signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Now of course the Browns added several pieces during free agency, but they definitely do not make up for all of the talent they lost. The Browns brought in embattled quarterback Robert Griffin III as he looks to get his NFL career back on track. They signed inside linebacker Demario Davis from the New York Jets to help bolster the linebacking corps.
They also signed offensive guard Alvin Bailey among other numerous depth additions. The Browns will have the second overall pick in the draft, and they should be focused on building up a team as a whole and not just zeroing in on the quarterback position.
Drafting a player like Carson Wentz will do nothing for your football team if all of his top protections, weapons and defensive leaders are gone. Taking the best player available is the only course of action here; if the Tennessee Titans decide to take safety Jalen Ramsey then the Browns must be prepared to take Laremey Tunsil.
The offensive line will be very much a concern for years to come if they do not begin repairing things now. There also seems to be a sense that the Browns will be able to turn the franchise around if they just grab a talented quarterback, when that just simply is not the case.
Cleveland needs to build up a team around a veteran quarterback who can help this team compete. A large portion of the Browns' offseason workout might be the time where the new head coach Hue Jackson evaluates all of the talent on this roster and who should remain with the team and who should be traded.
