Laremy Tunsil Will Visit San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers hosted a prospect this week who could potentially be the best player in the entire NFL draft. Offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil will check out the Chargers franchise as the team looks to bolster its offensive line. Tunsil would immediately become the best lineman on the Chargers' roster and would provide them an opportunity to run the ball more effectively.

With San Diego holding the No. 3 overall selection the Chargers will be getting one of the top prospects this draft has. The Tennessee Titans have been long rumored to be selecting Tunsil, however recent chatter suggests that they may go with the hometown hero in safety Jalen Ramsey.

There have even been talks of the Titans trading down which at one point seemed highly unlikely, however it appears that they seem to hold both Laremy Tunsil and fellow offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley within the same spectrum, so losing one and taking the other would not bother them too much.

If this were to happen the draft would change dramatically as there would be a new team holding the No. 1 overall pick. The Chargers are likely hoping that Tunsil falls to them as they really need to get some better protection around quarterback Phillip Rivers. The Chargers main needs lie with the defensive line, but you could add safety after the exit of Eric Weddle, wide receiver and the offensive line.

Weddle was one of the primary team captains and a core defender, which is just not a player you can replace. The Chargers will need to replace a lot of players, as well as find some key defenders that they can base their future around. Weddle was extremely important to the secondary, but the Chargers' main focus should revolve around building their offensive line.

The Chargers must put themselves in the best position to win now with Rivers, and that could require them to make a trade, but as of right now, only time will tell. There is also a good chance the Chargers look to take a quarterback at some point during the draft so it would make more sense for the franchise to begin rebuilding the offensive line before it has to start a new quarterback. Selecting Tunsil would go a long way toward this, plus it would give them a quality left tackle that would become an anchor for the offensive line for years to come.
