UFC 197 lost a lot of its luster when Daniel Cormier pulled out of the main event due to an injury. UFC 196 was a huge success, and the promotion was hoping to keep the momentum with a much anticipated title fight between Cormier and Jon Jones, but now that won't happen.
There is still plenty to look forward to at UFC 197, but UFC 200 is the big card most MMA fans can't wait for. The headliner is Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz which will be highly anticipated considering Diaz pulled the massive upset in their first fight, but the card has the potential to add another huge fighter to it.
That fighter is Georges St-Pierre, who confirmed that he is talking to the UFC about a potential comeback. St-Pierre did an interview with TSN during a Toronto Raptors game where he said he is on good terms with the UFC and that "everything is possible" regarding a comeback. Of course St-Pierre didn't want to reveal too much since there are ongoing negotiations, but a return seems imminent for the former welterweight champion.
St-Pierre hasn't fought since 2013 although he never officially retired. The 34-year-old walked away because he was unhappy with the promotion's drug testing policies, but he has since said they have gotten much better.
The UFC has said that it wants its 200th pay-per-view to be huge, and it already will be with McGregor vs. Diaz and Miesha Tate defending her title against Amanda Nunes, but adding St-Pierre would bring it over the top. Some have speculated that is a possibility and that it could be in a fight against current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, who doesn't currently have his next title defense scheduled. What a fight that would be.
While St-Pierre won't commit to any sort of return, the people around him have basically guaranteed he will be back and somewhat soon too. A little less than a month ago St-Pierre's coach Firas Zahabi said that he didn't think he could stay away from fighting any longer. Now GSP's striking coach, Freddie Roach, said that he saw him train a few weeks ago and he is in incredible shape. Roach also added that he thinks St-Pierre will fight at UFC 200 but they are just waiting on an opponent. If this is true that is huge news, and UFC 200 will be even bigger than even the UFC probably could have imagined.
