"Dark Souls III" has been live in the U.S. for little less than a week, and despite a few flaws (glitches for the PC, particularly), Bandai Namco's latest entry has been lauded as a welcome addition to the series - something that has been particularly encouraging for fans who felt that "Dark Souls II" lacked the impact of "Dark Souls" or "Demon Souls."
With that in mind, Souls fans should be happy to know that a new update will be arriving later today that will adjust the performance of greatswords, as well making a number of other fixes and tuning tweaks.
Bandai Namco announced in a Tumblr post that the patch will adjust the performance of the "Greatsword," "Soul's Greatsword" and "Farron Flashsword," as well as the battle performance of the "Dancer's Enchanted Sword" and "Winged Knight Twinaxes." In terms of bug fixes, the update will address the problem in which the game would prevent players from using multiple items at Road of Sacrifices, Farron Keep and Cathedral of the Deep after they complete the game.
The weapon adjustments are what players will definitely be keeping an eye out for when the patch goes live, and there is already a bit of speculation as to what they will be. The "Greatsword" entry in particular is what fans have been interested in, and it appears fans of the weapon class are in luck. The patch notes' wording appears to suggest that only particular weapons would be buffed, but reports indicate that the attack ratings of weapons within that class have been buffed across the board, finally making them worth using over particular straight swords.
In the meantime, the announcement also alluded to other general balance adjustments and bug fixes, though they declined to specify what these would be. Bandai Namco has also said it is aware of the Regulations issue on the Xbox One and is working on the fix.
What the post doesn't mention, however, is whether this patch will offer any kind of solution for players on the PC who have been experiencing crash issues. There are workarounds available, such as starting as the Knight class and keeping the starting helmet on or setting the "lighting" to "low," but a true developer fix has yet to be released.
