Pope Francis celebrated his 77th birthday on Tuesday by performing his daily mass and holding a breakfast for homeless people who live outside of the Vatican, TIME reported.
One homelass man even got to bring his dog with him.
Though he may be the first Pope to invite the homeless into the Vatican to celebrate his birthday, his act of kindness comes as no surprise as he's already become a symbol of hope and faith for the poor.
Earlier this month, it was revealed by a Vatican official that Francis was disguising himself as a priest and delivering aid to the homeless at night, living up to his nickname "the people's Pope."
Thousands of people on social media sites like Twitter wished Francis a happy birthday and applauded him for inviting the homeless to his morning celebration.
"Pope Francis spends his birthday having breakfast with 4 homeless people. What a refreshing leader he is," tweeted Vicky Beeching, a theologian and BBC journalist.
The celebration of the Pontiff's birthday was scheduled with several events throughout the day, including a visit from his favorite soccer team, San Lorenzo de Almagro, of his home country Argentina. The team won the Argentine national championship and will present Francis will a replica of their trophy on Tuesday or Wednesday.
According to Bloomberg, Francis became a paying member of the San Lorenzo club in 2008.
In addition to celebrating with the homeless and his favorite soccer team, the newly awarded Person of the Year by TIME magazine was also selected as person of the year by The Advocate -- a pro-LGBT magazine -- on Tuesday for his stance on homosexuality.
Though Francis does not approve of homosexuality, he famously stated in July that he would not "judge" gay or lesbian people for their sexual orientation.
"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Pope Francis said when answering a question about the "gay lobby" at the Vatican during a flight back to Rome from Brazil.
