Miami Dolphins Have ‘Strong Interest’ In Ezekiel Elliott In 2016 NFL Draft [RUMORS]

The Miami Dolphins need a running back. The team allowed Lamar Miller to walk in free agency and then struck out on C.J. Anderson and Chris Johnson. If the season started today, 2015 fifth-rounder Jay Ajayi would be the starting tailback, and he's carried the ball all of 49 times in his brief NFL career.

So again, the Miami Dolphins really need a running back.

Given the team's uncertainty at the position, it's no surprise that Miami has been linked to Ohio State rusher Ezekiel Elliott for the better part of a month. He's been mentioned in countless rumors, mock drafts and everything else you can think of in association with the Dolphins. That's not going to change until he's wearing someone else's uniform come draft day.

A new rumor report only reinforces that belief, as the Dolphins are said to have "strong interest" in the ball-carrier.

"Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott's visit [to Miami] Tuesday went very well, he would welcome the Dolphins drafting him if he slips to 13, and Miami has strong interest, according to someone involved. He already has a lease on an apartment in Miami, though that has nothing to do with any possibility of him landing with the Dolphins," the report says.

Elliott and Miami make a great fit on paper, but it's going to be hard to ensure his delivery to South Beach. The Dallas Cowboys (No. 4), Cleveland Browns (No. 8) New York Giants (No. 10) and Oakland Raiders (No. 14) have all been rumored to be interested in Elliott. It's possible that the OSU rusher is long-gone by the time Miami is on the clock. The Dolphins may have to make a move up the draft board to guarantee that they get their hands on their guy.

Elliott rushed for 1,821 yards and 23 touchdowns on a 6.3 yards-per-carry average last season. He also added 27 catches for 206 yards. The talented back has accrued more than 4,100 yards from scrimmage over the last two seasons while rushing for a total of 44 touchdowns in 35 games. In addition, he's largely considered one of the best pass blockers in the nation at his position.
