Fans of the "Battlefield" franchise have been clamoring for details about the upcoming game since the title was announced. Indeed, with the game being a constant favorite of FPS fans worldwide, and with EA and DICE all but confirming the title's release sometime between October 2016 and March 2017, the hype surrounding the game is at an all-time high.
As the game nears its eventual release, however, numerous rumors have emerged about the theme that "Battlefield 5" would adopt. Among these rumors, of course, is the speculation that the newest title in the long-running and popular franchise would be based in the first World War. If the most recent leaks are to be believed, this does seem to be the case.
In a recent announcement, popular gaming researcher Liam Robertson announced a potentially pertinent leak from a Swiss retail listing, which features a very notable and rumored feature of the upcoming game.
According to the website of Swiss retailer World of Games, "Battlefield 5" is set to be released on PS4, XBox One and PC on Oct. 25, 2016. As notable as the date of the game's release is, what is more prominent is the brief description of the game, which read "Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg."
Roughly translated, the words mean "Multiplayer tactical shooter in WW1."
But that is not all. Joe Brammer, the executive producer of prominent WW2 game "Battalion 1944," recently stated, "I've seen things, #BF5 things and I am beyond excited." Of course, considering that the executive producer is behind one of the more prominent titles that centered on a World War 2 setting, numerous "Battlefield" fans were immediately piqued.
Eventually, however, Brammer backtracked on his statement, saying that his announcement was "clearly a mistake on my part." He added that it was "a massive oversight on the desperation for squeezing information."
Though very little of the actual mechanics of the game have been released to the public, there is wide speculation that EA and DICE would make an official announcement in the upcoming EA Play showcase, which is scheduled from June 12 to 14 at Club Nokia at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.
With the company's keynote address set for June 12, there is a very good chance indeed that the first concrete details about "Battlefield 5" would finally come to light.
