After enjoying the success of its flagship title, "Minecraft," and getting absorbed by Microsoft, Swedish game studio Mojang has released its new title, called "Crown & Council," a fast-paced strategy game that invokes the classics of the genre.
In fact, looking at the game, "Crown & Council" kind of looks like a pixelated and streamlined version of one of the best strategy games of all time, the original "Civilization" game. Just like the aforementioned game, players of "Crown & Council must build up their empire by taking over land, balancing their empire's economy and of course, building up their military strength.
Once a player manages to get his or her empire running, it would be time to expand territories. Doing this requires players to conquer rival kingdoms in mass battles that are both fun and very intense.
What sets the game apart from "Civilization" clones is the fact that, just like "Minecraft," there is more to "Crown & Council" than meets the eye. Players of the game have remarked that the new title managed to combine a classic look with advanced, modern-day gameplay.
Among these factors include an option for players to determine the type of empire they would like to develop. According to Mojang, players could opt for an offensive strategy, building armies and quickly disposing of their enemies, or they could go for a far more strategic, defensive strategy, building up their resources and supportive facilities to create an empire that is next to impossible to topple.
Overall, "Crown & Council" is a pretty well-rounded game that requires a lot of thinking from its players. Just like the best strategy games that the title is undoubtedly inspired by, there is always more ways than one to win.
While the game is almost certainly a side project for the popular developer, it nonetheless has the potential to be a big hit due to its innovative mixture of classic strategy gaming concepts.
"Crown & Council" was created by just one member of the Mojang team, Henrik Pettersson. If that's not cool enough, the game, due to its simple graphics, could run on the most basic computers. Any device with just 1GB of RAM and 300MB of free space could run the game very well.
The game currently comes with 75 maps that players are free to build on and conquer. Because it's Mojang, there is, of course, an option for players to create their own maps using the game's built-in map creator.
"Crown & Council" is currently available for free download through Steam.
