Fox has taken down an episode of “Family Guy” off its website, after an edited video took scenes from the episode to degrade the Boston Marathon, according to Fox News.com.
During the March 17 episode, main character Peter Griffin, responds to a question about the marathon from sports personality Bob Costas. In a flashback— one of the show’s trademark comedy effects—Peter is seen running over marathon runners to the finish line.
“I'll tell ya, Bob, I just got in my car and drove it," Peter. "And when there was a guy in my way, I killed him.”
As the episode progresses, Peter becomes friends with a man who turns out to be a terrorist—a storyline unrelated to the Boston Marathon. Peter proceeds to unknowingly become part of a plot to blow up a bridge. The terrorists give him a cell phone and he unknowingly blows up a bridge. In fact, he keeps pressing buttons on the cell phone as multiple explosions go off in the background.
The issue with the cell-phone arose after a video appeared online editing the episode. In the video, the explosions in the March 17 episode are made to appear at the Boston Marathon flashback.
According to Fox spokesperson Gaude Perez, the episode has been taken down from Hulu.com and Fox.com.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of the show, issued an apology and blasted the edited video.
"The edited 'Family Guy' clip currently circulating is abhorrent," he tweeted. "The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims."
