The funeral for the man who was shot and killed at an upscale New Jersey mall is set for Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported.
A service for Dustin Friedland, 30, will be held at Beth Am Shalom in Lakewood, New Jersey, not far from his hometown of Toms River.
Friedland was with his wife, Jamie, at The Mall at Short Hills on Sunday night when two men trying to steal their Range Rover attacked him. When he refused to hand over the keys to protect his wife, who was already in the car, the assailants shot him, took their car, and fled the scene.
The next day, the stolen vehicle was discovered in Newark, just a few miles away from the mall. Some police theories suggest the attack was part of a carjacking ring occurring in the tristate area.
Friedland, an attorney, was warmly remembered by colleagues.
Former co-workers at Lerner David in Westfield called him "the most charming, delightful guy."
His current law partner, Bruce Sales, shared the same sentiment.
"The staff loves him. They were in tears and some of them still are," Sales said. "It's disbelief."
Friedland and his wife, who is also an attorney, met at Syracuse Law School and married two years ago. They resided in Hoboken, where their neighbors continue to grieve the loss of his life.
"It can happen to anyone and that is the worst part of it all," said former neighbor Ryan Florez.
The law firm that Jamie works at, Adam Leitman Bailey, for recently posted a $10,000 reward for anyone with information regarding the two men responsible for the attack.
The firm is well known for it's pro bono defense of the "Ground Zero mosque" and for challenging the Trump SoHo New York developers who buyers claimed duped them into purchasing property.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office at (877) 847 - 7432.
