Twitter announced a new feature Tuesday that will make it easier for advertisers to target possible consumers on the social media website, according to CNET.com.
On Twitter’s advertising blog, the company boasted about the new program entitled “keyword targeting in timelines.” The new “ad platform” will be available in all locations and languages that support Twitter Ads.
The new feature allows advertisers to reach potential customers based on certain keywords used in their tweets.
“This is an important new capability – especially for those advertisers looking for signals of intent – because it lets marketers reach users at the right moment, in the right context,” the post said.
The blog post gave an example that discussed a music album. In the example, a certain person tweets about their favorite band. The band may be playing in a local venue in the near future. With the new feature, “the venue could now run a geotargated campaign.” This will allow a Promoted Tweet to appear on the user’s timeline, with a link to purchase tickets for the show.
The post also discusses a test done of the new feature done by Go Pro. Go Pro is a company that sells cameras that can be worn or held while performing actions or stunts.
According to the post, after testing the new Twitter function, “GoPro saw close to two million impressions and engagement rates as high as 11 percent on Tweets promoted using the new feature.”
The post says that this is the only major change Twitter users will see with the new campaign. The campaign will not cause a massive influx of ads on a user’s timeline. Also users, if users desire, they may still get rid of Promoted Tweets.
