Author David Lagercrantz will write the fourth installment of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series.
"Obviously we are hugely excited," Norstedts Managing Director Eva Gedin told Reuters. "We believe we have found a quite superb author for this project."
Larsson's series includes the famous "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" novel, following the story of Lisbeth Slander and Mikael Blomqvist. The 50-year-old author died in 2004 before completing his fourth novel, according to BBC. Lagercrantz has already begun working on the novel.
"The head of publishing at Norstedts, Eva Gedin, told the Associated Press the book will be an original work that includes nothing from the fourth book in the series that Larsson began writing but hadn't finished when he died," The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" trilogy reported sold 75 million copies worldwide, with the series being translated into Swedish and Hollywood films. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara played Mikael Blomqvist and Lisbeth Slander in the direct David Fincher' American movie version.
Fincher's "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" film reportedly grossed $233 million worldwide. The sequel, "The Girl Who Played With Fire", is currently in development, but Craig is demanding more money to star in the film, THR reports:
Sources close to the project say the biggest holdup isn't Fincher's involvement but star Daniel Craig's. The studio has options on Craig for two sequels, but the actor is said to want a pay raise, not a cut, in the wake of Skyfall grossing $1 billion worldwide. If Sony can't bring Craig back to reprise his role as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, the sources say the studio could write the character out of the sequel. (A Craig source says negotiations have yet to commence but the actor wants to return to the role.)
There is no set release date for the fourth installment of Larsson's Millennium series nor for Fincher's sequel for the American blockbuster.
