"Captain America: Civil War" has not yet been in North American theaters for a full 24 hours, and we are already looking ahead to what is next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we're plenty excited for the handful of new characters being introduced to the MCU in the coming years, the most significant event on the MCU calendar is the upcoming two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" series. One of the biggest questions regarding these films has been who, exactly, will be showing up?
Joe and Anthony Russo are taking over the "Avengers" series from Joss Whedon, and the brotherly duo may have just accidentally let slip one of the more interesting details. The pair just finished directing "Civil War" and are soon getting started on "Infinity War." But before they do, they attended an event at the Smithsonian Institute last night, where they spoke about the future of the MCU. At some point, Captain Marvel was brought up, and it sounds like the duo confirmed the character's involvement in the film.
Is this a huge spoiler? Not exactly.
Marvel has long been planning for a "Captain Marvel" standalone film, as the studio has yet to produce a major blockbuster headlined by a female character. The "Captain Marvel" solo adventure is scheduled to hit theaters in between Part I and Part II of "Infinity War," making her fair game to join the fight against Thanos.
However, Marvel President Kevin Feige recently said that fans would not be seeing Carol Danvers in any MCU project prior to her own. Does that mean she won't show up until the latter half of the "Infinity War" series, or is Feige just playing coy? It wouldn't be the first time that he purposely misdirected the media.
What do you think, Marvel fans? When will we see Captain Marvel?
"Avengers: Infinity War" Part I and Part II are slated for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively. "Captain Marvel" will arrive in theaters on July 6, 2018.
