LG has unveiled its Chromebase, a new 21.5-inch all-in-one desktop computer that runs on the Google Chrome operating system. So far the company has only unveiled the specs for the device. As for what it will cost and when it will be released, that remains to be seen. However, LG has said that it will be showcasing the Chromebase at this year's CES 2014.
According to Android Central, the desktop is powered by a Celeron processor with 2GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The IPS display comes with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and a 178-degree viewing angle.
The Chormebase sports a trio of USB 2.0 ports and a single USB 3.0 port along with an HDMI-in connectivity port. This will allow users to utilize the display with other sources like a Blu-Ray player or a gaming console with ease. The all-in-one will come packaged with a keyboard and mouse.
"Simple to operate for all types of users, the award-winning LG Chromebase computer represents the successful combination of simplicity, power and great design," Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics said in a press release. "LG Chromebase is the wave of the future for desktops, expected to be widely adopted not only at home, but especially in schools, hotels, call centers and other business settings."
The Chromebased operating system comes on the computer is basically a glorified Chrome browser. While that might not sound appealing to the general public of computer consumers, it's worth noting that the ChromeOS usually brings down the cost of the hardware that its on, making most Chromebooks and Chrome-based computers less expensive than, say, a Windows-based PC or Mac.
