A man who allegedly opened fire on the White House is in custody after Secret Service officers shot him in the abdomen Friday.
Reports of shots fired led to both the White House and Treasury Department being put on lockdown Friday afternoon.
The U.S. Park Police, which has jurisdiction of the area where the incident occurred, revealed that there was a shooting at West Executive Drive after 3 p.m. via Twitter.
President Barack Obama was at a golf outing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland during the incident, while Vice President Joe Biden was secured in the White House complex.
West Executive Drive separates the White House's West Wing offices from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The Eisenhower Executive Office Building is home to additional offices for the Executive Office of the President, such as the vice president's ceremonial office.
Secret Service snipers were spotted on the White House roof with their guns fixed on the area of the shooting, and reporters who were in the White House briefing room were told to take shelter in the basement, USA Today reported.
The suspect brandished a weapon near a security checkpoint, according to a report.
Secret Service earlier Friday afternoon cleared the White House North Lawn, Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette part in an "ongoing security incident." At the time, officers drew their guns and told reporters to move inside.
