Aaron Hernandez Case: 5 Latest Developments In Ex-NFL Star’s Homicide Investigation, Next Court Date

Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez is currently held without bail while awaiting trial for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Below are the five latest developments in the case, including the status of his fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, the 2012 unsolved double homicide in Boston and Hernandez's next court date.

1. The mother of Lloyd filed a wrongful death lawsuit on Monday against Hernandez. The civil complaint, according to the Boston Globe, alleges Hernandez was responsible for the death of her son.

The complaint also seeks an injunction on the $3.25 million the Patriots may owe Hernandez, pending the result of the NFLPA's grievance filed on Hernandez's behalf. Lloyd's mother contends if the Patriots owe Hernandez money, then it should go to Lloyd's estate.

The lawsuit, if not settled out of court first, is unlikely to reach court until after a verdict is rendered in Hernandez's murder trial.

2. A woman with ties to Hernandez died on Monday. Tabitha Perry, 27, was from Hernandez's hometown of Bristol, Conn. She had a child with Thaddeus Singleton III, who's married to Hernandez's cousin, Tanya Singleton. Police responded to a 911 call and found Perry, who was visiting a friend, unconscious and not breathing.

Police are awaiting the results of the toxicology report but do not suspect foul play at this point, according to the Hartford Courant.

Perry is now the third person with ties to Hernandez to have died since his incarceration. Thaddeus was killed in a single-car crash on June 30; Perry, a passenger in the crash the crash, survived. Hernandez's uncle, Robert J. Valentine, died in a moped accident in August.

Investigators ruled both crashes accidents, according to The Globe.

Authorities investigating Lloyd's murder had planned to speak with Thaddeus prior to his death, according to The Courant. Perry was questioned by Massachusetts authorities but never charged.

Thaddeus was considered the "nexus" of Hernandez's Bristol network and was believed to have introduced Hernandez to Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, both of whom are charged in connection with Lloyd's death.

Thaddeus' wife, Tanya, is facing conspiracy and contempt charges in connection with the Lloyd case.

3. Hernandez's fiancée, Jenkins, is charged with perjury. The prosecution alleges she perjured herself at least 29 times during her grand jury testimony in August. Police also believe she may have hid the weapon used to kill Lloyd.

She was released on her own recognizance.

4. Police are investigating a possible link between Hernandez and a 2012 unsolved double-homicide in Boston. A witness identified Hernandez as the shooter in October.

In a separate incident, Hernandez pled the Fifth Amendment in a lawsuit filed against him in Florida. The lawsuit alleges Hernandez shot his acquaintance in the face. The acquaintance, Alexander Bradley, had also been subpoenaed to testify before a Massachusetts grand jury in regard to Hernandez's alleged murder of Lloyd.

5. Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on Monday, Dec. 23.
