Kingdom Hearts has remarkably confusing titles. For the record, 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue' is not the 'Kingdom Hearts 3' that people have been waiting for a long time. But KH 2.8 does offer fans a new storyline that will prepare them for the media-hyped KH 3.
Square Enix rolled out Kingdom Hearts 2 on PlayStation 2 ten years ago. Since then, the company has been releasing a number of spinoff titles to allay mounting pressure from fans who have demanded a third iteration of the cross-world role playing game. Additionally, the publisher also produced HD remastered versions for the spinoff games such as the HD 1.5 Remix on the PlayStation 3.
With fans growing restless over the delayed release of Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix offers Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for PlayStation 4 slated to arrive in December this year, Game Rant reported.
For all fans wondering where the 2.8 designation originates, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura uses simple arithmetic to explain things. In the timeline, Dream Drop Distance is 2.6, Birth by Sleep 0.2, and Unchained X is 0.0 since it is at the start of the KH timeline. Add them all up and result would be 2.8.
The new trailer shows some new gameplay scenes for previous KH titles like Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, and Birth by Sleep 0.2- A Fragmentary Passage. As mentioned by Techno Buffalo, the sneak preview reveals Keyblade Wielder Aqua's fight against the Heartless. The game is added to franchise's HD collection with highly advanced graphics.
In the game, players would take control of Aqua in her quest. As a prep leading up to KH 3, gamers will have the opportunity to experience how the much anticipated sequel feels like on PlayStation 4.
Meanwhile, Square Enix is reportedly pushing Final Fantasy 7 Remake's release date further into 2018 to prioritize the launching of Kingdom Hearts 3 which is still in development.
