Following a stream of positive reviews from game critics, Bethesda Softworks has recently announced at this year's E3 that they will be offering a free-to-play demo for one week as part of their marketing campaign for Doom 2016.
As reported by Engadget, fans will be given a treat for one week by offering the first level of Doom reboot free on PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One. The promo was reminiscent of the shareware demos that were so widely popular on PCs back then. While the teaser is only good for one week, it's still a better promo than what other publishers offer at E3.
Apart from the free play for one week, the company also announced the new 'Unto Evil' expansion for Doom reboot as per PlayStation LifeStyle report. The downloadable content will reportedly include new maps and multiplayer campaigns plus the classic deathmatch.
The upcoming DLC pack was revealed by Bethesda at E3's opening giving Doom players a new armor, a new demon, new multiplayer maps, taunts, and a whole lot more according to Gamespot. The expansion will be officially launched "in a couple of months," the publisher said. As for the multiplayer campaigns, two new modes will be rolled out, namely, Exodus (a capture-the-flag mode) and Sector (multizone capture mode). Free-for-all modes are also in store for the players including the classic fan favorite, the deathmatch.
Elsewhere in the game, Doom 2016's SnapMap and level editor will receive fresh updates to enhance functionality and gameplay experience. Doom reboot is often criticized for its lack of uninspired storyline but scores tremendously high on chaotic combat and sheer violence that epitomize male power fantasies.
Free updates to the game are expected to be rolled out sometime this summer although no official release date has been announced yet. The Doom one-level free play will be available throughout the week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
