In a two-minute speech, John Cena spoke in fluent Mandarin- a foreign language most people would probably find extremely difficult to speak. But in a WWE press conference in Shanghai, the 15-time World Heavyweight WWE champion spoke with ease as if he was a Chinese native.
The champ has been mastering Chinese Mandarin after completing his French language courses back in 2013, Uproxx reported. The WWE superstar explained that the wrestling promotion has been giving free second language training to expand their wrestlers' appear to a more diverse global audience.
Such decision allows Vince McMahon's entertainment sports empire to penetrate deeply into other lucrative markets particularly China where his monstrous cash cow Cena is already making a good impression among the Chinese entertainment sports press.
Cena's so-called two-minute Mandarin speech was shown in a WWE YouTube clip from the company's 'historic' press meeting in China where the formal WWE-PPTV (a Chinese live media streaming firm) partnership. To strengthen US-based WWE-China relations, Triple H was also present to announce the first ever Chinese talent to get signed in with WWE, the 6-foot-3 and 230-pound Bin Wang.
Meanwhile, WWE is currently expanding its business interests in China ushering a new era in sports entertainment industry. Ahead of the scheduled return of WWE live event to Shanghai on September 10, 2016, WWE signed an exclusive multi-year content distribution contract with PPTV, Business Wire reported. The historic announcement, where John Cena spoke in his perfect Mandarin, was made on June 16 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
In the event, WWE was represented by WWE Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Michelle D. Wilson, WWE Superstar John Cena, WWE Vice President & General Manager of Greater China Jay Li, and WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative Paul "Triple H" Levesque. Representing the Chinese side were Vice President of PPTV, General Manager of PPTV Sports Stephen Zhang and CEO of Shanghai Expo Development Ltd. Ding Hao.
