Katie Couric's Talk Show 'Katie' Has Been Cancelled WHY?

Katie Couric's popular talk show, "Katie," has been cancelled and will end in June 2014, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After two seasons, ABC has pulled the plug on "Katie," and Thursday, Couric's rep and the show's distributor ABC Domestic Television released a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter: "We've mutually agreed that there will not be a third season of the show. We're very proud of everyone's contributions to making 'Katie' the No. 1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-13, and we look forward to the rest of the season."

Back in 2011, Couric left CBS to launch her own daytime show on ABC, one of the most expensive shows in syndication. Trouble reportedly began when Couric's executive producer, Jeff Zucker, left mid-way through the first season to run CNN. The show also had difficulty with ratings and appealing to Couric's target demographic of women 25-54.

Insiders claim that the 56-year-old host also had trouble booking big-name stars and was having behind-the-scenes issues with producers, as she wanted a more news-driven program with a hard news approach to interviews while poducers wanted more light-hearted, gossip-fueled content.

Despite it being the end of "Katie," it is certainly not the end of Couric's career, as she has signed on to work as a global anchor for Yahoo! in 2014 and will be paid a reported $6 million, part of a guaranteed two-year deal worth $10 million. It's even more than she made on "Katie," which was about $5 million a year.
