Over the years, plenty of WWE icons have found themselves on the wrong side of the law for a variety of offences starting from assault to more serious offences and last Friday, another WWE icon in the form of Jerry 'The King' Lawler was arrested for domestic violence in Memphis. Much loved WWE announcer Lawler got into a scuffle with Lauryn McBride, his fiancee at the couple's residence in Mephis. According to a report on the website wrestlinginc.com, "The couple got into an argument that turned violent and involved a gun. McBride told police that Lawler held her against the kitchen counter, hit her in the head, pushed her against a stove, then put a gun on the kitchen counter and told her to kill herself."
The report went on to add "Lawler told police the argument started when Lauryn lied about where she had been. Lawler said McBride scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. He also claimed she was drunk and threatening to kill herself. Both were arrested when police were unable to determine who started the problems. They were booked into the Shelby County jail around 1am today."
The WWE, had also released a statement in the immediate aftermath of the incident stating that the company does not condone tat sort of behavious from its employees. This is the statement from the WWE in full, "Jerry Lawler was arrested at his home Friday morning by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in Memphis, Tenn. According to a police report, Lawler and his girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, were taken into custody and booked on alleged charges of domestic assault-bodily harm, a misdemeanor. WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest." As of now, it is not known which way the investigation will turn and there has been no update on how Lawler is going to plead his case.
