The notorious "Amityville horror" house is up for sale once more. This two-storey Dutch Colonial-style house in New York is haunted by bad luck.
It is now listed for US$850,000.
How is it priced? For quite a princely sum, going by the grapevine: "Star-power drives the house's price well above the median of $427,450 for its neighborhood and the median of $325,000 for the village. The median house price in the state of New York is $269,900, and the Amityville horror house is priced at the same point as a home in Brooklyn or New Rochelle. The Amityville house was last listed for sale in 2010 for $1.15 million and sold for $950,000."
And what exactly are its terrorizing spirits? It is not completely clear for many.
"There've been four owners since the murders, and none of them ran out of the house screaming, and there were no strange experiences [such as murder]," the brokers said, according to Curbed.
The house was listed for US$1.15 million in 2010. It was last sold in 1997 for US$310,000. Those who lived here did not seem to undergo anything at all "creepy" here.
The Amityville village extends about 9,500 in Babylon on the south coast of Long Island. It has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and a formal dining room, all adding to a total of 11 rooms. This quarter-acre property at 108 Ocean Avenue is situated on the Amityville River.
Constructed in 1927, it consists of a large boat house, boat slip, and a two-car garage too.
The listing describes the house: "The horror. The horror. Known as "The Amityville Horror" house, this otherwise unassuming five-bedroom home has scared up a decent amount of online buzz. Whether that interest translates into a buyer willing to overlook the home's rep is another story entirely."
This horror house has haunted even mystery books and film fans everywhere. This one happens to be the building in which Ronald DeFeo Jr killed his parents, two brothers and two sisters in 1974.
One year later, it was sold to George and Kathleen Lutz and their three children. However, the 1977 "The Amityville Horror" book by Jay Anson explains that the family began to go through particular "paranormal activities" in the house.
Every morning, George would wake up at 3:15 a.m. He learned later that it was tallying with the time of the DeFeo murders. Kathleen had other nightmares that were related to the killings, even as the children started to sleep on their stomachs, just the way the DeFeos dead bodies had been discovered. In the house, there were a number of related experiences that were chilling. Hence, the Lutz family left after a month.
A number of horror movies were based on Anson's book from 1979 right up to 2013. The Amityville house is part of the "The Conjuring 2" plot. As the films were popular, the address got changed from 112 Ocean Avenue to 108 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, NY.
