Based on news reports, season 4 is geared towards exploring Red's (James Spader) story deeper. The show will also delve into Liz (Megan Boone), Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) and Tom (Ryan Eggold), as well as the Post Office Team.
In season 3, Liz succumbed to her injuries after giving birth to Agnes, her daughter, and died. However, the later episodes revealed that Liz was only faking her death so that she can protect her daughter from Red and his influence.
The previous season finale revealed Liz's father, Kirk, which now puts her plan at risk. Boone discusses that it is yet to be seen what Kirk has in store for Liz, now that he has claimed to be her father. However, Liz doesn't trust the man at all, so it waits to be seen what will happen next. "I don't think she trusts this guy. He took away her family and possibly the anonymity she tried to gain by faking her death," Boone said.
The show producers, Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath, also discuss Kirk and Liz's role in Season 4. Eisendrath said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "He says he's her father, but is he going to hurt her, help her, be kind to her, or does he want to destroy her?"
Bokenkamp added that while Kirk's intensions are not known, there is no reason for Liz to not trust Kirk being her real father. "I don't know why we wouldn't believe him. Red's said before that he's not Liz's father. This man shows up in her life and says he's her father. Liz should take him at his word. She thought she shot her father. It raises a number of questions, which is going to be the joy of season 4," Bokenkamp added.
