Even though "Resident Evil" has enjoyed long standing success and "Resident Evil 7" is highly anticipated, its previous installment, "Resident Evil 6," failed to live up to the benchmark set by Capcom, as has been previously reported.
While "Resident Evil 6" was huge, the game's action horror was a sore disappointment to many loyal RE fans. However, the latest "Resident Evil 7" trailer showcased at E3 tacjles these concerns by giving "silent hill" like treatment to its game. The resultant promo had a dark and somber mood.
"Resident Evil 7" appears to be a Capcom attempt to regain its fans who they disappointed due to cancellation of Kojima's "Silent Hills." While there is no sign of zombies or the famous Las Plagas from "Resident Evil 4," the game trailer opens with a headline that reports about ghost sightings.
It is interesting to note, however, is that the game trailer as was shown at E3 was not entirely from "Resident Evil 7" game video. It is, in fact, a playable E3 teaser, confirmed Masachika Kawata, "Resident Evil 7" producer in an interview with GameSpot. Simply put, what is seen in the trailer is independent of the game's final version. He does, however, confirms that the final game will have the similar atmosphere, as shown at E3. The game will now bring the focus back into survival horror rather than the action horror.
Kawata was also asked how much is the new game tied into the well established traditions of "Resident Evil." While he did not reveal much, he did say that the healing power in RE 7 too will come from herbs, not much of an answer.
Regardless of the final direction that the game follows, it looks like Capcom is paying attention to the fan needs. "Resident Evil 7" is scheduled for release on PS4 and Xbox One in January 2017.
