Just when we thought the iPhone 7 headphone debate was rested, new leaks seek to prove earlier speculation wrong.
According to Engadget, images from China buttress the claim iPhone 7 will retain the headphone jack; images of Lightning port assembly show what is unmistakably the headphone jack attached to the circuitry. Though this isn't the first time this image has appeared online, it certainly shows that the debate is still alive.
Reports based on iPhone 7 rumors have claimed Apple would do away with the headphone jack to slim down the iPhone 7 by as much as 1 mm appeared on the heels of iPhone 6S launch. The rumor gained traction in forecasts made by noted analysts and was heralded as the saving grace for the iPhone 7 which is expected to feature the same design of the iPhone 6S.
The removal of iPhone headphone jack was also associated with inclusion of a second speaker at the bottom and improved audio amplification. It remains to be seen which of these features makes the final cut.
Leaks from Rock Fix, the repair shop in China that posted images of Lightning assembly, also showed off images of 256 GB storage modules for iPhone 7 Plus. Interestingly, those images also purported to show dual-SIM modules for the iPhone 7. If included, dual SIM is a first for Apple. Then there were images of the dual-camera module, consistent with existing speculation.
Up until now the word on the iPhone 7 Plus is it would feature dual-real camera with 3 GB RAM and a relatively bulkier battery when compared to its predecessor. The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will be devoid of dual-lens camera but feature an improved single-lens shooter that will not sit flush with the rear.
Some have also suggested Apple will do replace the physical home button with tactile circle, a transition to an OLED touch approach to the button that also hides a biometric sensor. Apple is likely to schedule iPhone 7 release date in September.
