Overwatch has dominated the UK video game top charts for three consecutive weeks now. But Doom 2016's release spelled an end for the former's dominance in the UK charts.
The 2016 remake of the 1993 cult classic FPS game nabbed the top spot through its retail promotional discounts, GFK Chart-Track. By slashing 5 pounds off the price, Doom's sales increased by 57% compared to last week's figures.
The game's recent chart-topping performance marks Bethesda Softworks' first top seller in Britain since the November release of Fallout 4. Moreover, it also marks id Software's return to UK's top chars since the 2004 release of Doom 3. Previously, the Doom remake was trailing behind Overwatch and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Attack of the Fanboy reported.
Overwatch remains a top seller despite sliding to number two after a 24% drop in sales. The game is quite popular with more than 10 million people playing the game across the globe. As for Uncharted 4: A Thief, the game ended up nabbing the third spot with only 1% drop from last week's sales.
FIFA 16 and GTA 5 are stuck in the top 4 and 5 spots respectively. For newly released games, only one managed to enter in the top 40 which is MotoGP 16: Valentino Rossi. Elsewhere in the list, Star Wars Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 managed to re-enter the top 10 list largely due to falling prices. Mirror's Edge Catalyst, on the other hand, lost four notches down from number two last week to number 6 this week.
