WWE News and Rumors: WWE Suspends Roman Reigns for Violation of Wellness Policy

In a development that would certainly come as a shock for WWE fans, WWE super star and one of the real top notch stars in the business right now, Roman Reigns has been suspended by the company for his first break of the wellness policy of the company. The WWE released a statement yesterday stating that the wrestler, whose reign as the WWE champion came to an end 3 days back at WWE Money in the Bank, stating that the wrestler stands suspended for 30 days for the said breach.

The WWE statement stated, "WWE has suspended Joe Anoa'i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company's talent wellness policy." Roman Reigns took to Twitter in order to express his thoughts on the development and said, ""I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE's wellness policy. No excuses. I own it." The wellness policy was instituted by the WWE back in 2006 in order to make sure that wrestlers did not use any performance enhancing drugs and Roman Reigns is without doubt the highest profile star to have found himself on the wrong side of the policy.

However, it needs to be mentioned that the WWE had also suspended two other stars earlier this year and it seems that the company is taking a hardline view on any breaches. As reported by ESPN, "This wellness suspension is the third penalty of its kind that WWE has issued in 2016. In April, the company suspended Raymond Leppan (Adam Rose) and Ryan Parmeter (Konnor) for 60 days each for their second violations of the policy. Leppan subsequently requested and was granted his release." A report on FORBES explained how the suspension of Reigns would affect both the wrestler and the company, "The timing could not have been worse for Reigns and for the WWE, which just last night announced the highly anticipated Triple Threat match between all three former Shield members as the Battleground main event. What's interesting, however, is that Reigns unexpectedly dropped the WWE World Heavyweight title at Money in the Bank on Sunday, after a late shift in betting odds saw Rollins become an overwhelming favorite."
