CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the Gwent card game within The Witcher 3 is now a standalone game at E3 2016. As a fan favorite mini game, CD Projekt Red admitted that it was flooded with requests to turn Gwent as an official Witcher 3 spinoff. Also, a new Witcher 3 patch has been released to fix in-game issues and add a raft of tweaks and enhancements.
As reported by CNET, Gwent will retain the same gameplay complex but with a redesigned feature and full cross-platform play for September release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Moreover, the game will have single-player campaign with friendly and ranked matches.
While Gwent looks quite similar to Hearthstone, the Witcher 3 spinoff is quite different in some ways. For example, all game-related information is linked to the cards themselves with no other currencies like health points or mana that affect the player's ability. Moreover, like in real-life card game, Gwent depends on bluffing skills and deception. Overall, the digital card game is pretty much like poker. Ultimately, the cards and the game mechanics are quite easy to understand. However, the entire game is difficult to master.
"It's closer to poker, I would say, than other card games. It's all about knowing how to manage your hand," game designer Damien Monnier explained, The Verge reported.
Meanwhile, the 1.22 update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is finally live across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The latest update comes with dozens of bug fixes and other gameplay issues. The patch fixes problems related to losing earned levels, the "noblewoman in red" who follows Geralt everywhere, body parts suspended in mid-air after an explosion, and the seemingly invulnerable golem standing guard between Bowdon and Brunwich.
New additions and tweaks were reported including a food and drink vitality display notification showing regeneration amount, Game Spot reported. Moreover, a new art dealer has been recently opened somewhere near Lazare Lafargue's Workshop in Beauclair. Lastly, gamers can now get their "Emhyr var Emreis: Emperor of Nilfgaard" Gwent card from the Crossroads innkeeper.
