Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is the latest addition to Saban's 2017 remake of the 1990's children's superhero classic "Power Ranger." He will assume the role of Zordon, the galactic sage guiding the five-man team of high school teenagers.
Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is currently directing the project produced by Saban Brands' Haim Saban and Brian Casentini. Marty Bowen and Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey are also co-producing the movie. Allison Shearmur is the film's executive producer.
Forming the colorful team are Dacre Montgomery (Jason the Red Ranger), RJ Cyler (Billy the Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly the Pink Ranger), Becky G (Trini the Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack the Black Ranger), and The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa). Writing the script are Burk Sharpless & Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold & Last Witch Hunter), Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor), Max Landis (Chronicle), and John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island, Real Steel), Superhero Hype reported.
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was a pop culture phenomenon in 1993 as a hit Fox Kids TV series which eventually led to a big-screen adaptation (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie) back in 1995. As per Variety, the upcoming film remake of the 90's cult classic traces the origins of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers- a group of high school teenagers with extraordinary powers who are out to save the world from alien threat.
Meanwhile, Saban Brands recently announced their new licensing partners for Power Rangers. The partners are expected to create a number of diverse consumer products based on the superhero franchise. The Power Rangers-inspired products are due to launch in fall this year with new releases elsewhere around the world into early 2017. Power Rangers will hit the theaters worldwide on March 24 next year.
