NBA Trade Rumors: Serge Ibaka Traded to Orlando, Raptors wanted Serge Ibaka in trade

The Orlando Magic got forward Serge Ibaka in a trade Thursday night with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder got guard Victor Oladipo, forward Ersan Ilyasova and the rights to power forward Domantas Sabonis, who was taken with the 11th pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night.

Orlando later announced it as official.

"Serge [Ibaka] is a young veteran who brings tremendous athleticism and toughness to our frontcourt," Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said. "His tireless work ethic and wealth of playoff experience will help enhance our culture and roster. We thank Victor [Oladipo] for all of his contributions both on the court and in the community. We wish him and Ersan [Ilyasova] the best of luck in the future."

"The defense we played at Indiana that we hope to bring here to Orlando is predicated on having a guy like Serge Ibaka that can protect the rim and be that lead shot-blocker," said coach Frank Vogel, who joined the Magic last month after his contract with the Pacers was not renewed. "The way the NBA is going, defensive versatility is huge."

In the meantime, Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced also saying “Tonight represented an opportunity to build the versatility, depth and skill of our basketball team. Victor, Ersan and Domantas represent the character, work ethic and toughness that we relentlessly pursue with the Thunder.

According to Fansided the Toronto Raptors reportedly tried to trade for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka during the first round of the NBA Draft.

The Thunder spurned the offer proposed by the Raptors but eventually sent Ibaka to the Orlando Magic.

Serge wrote in his instagram right after the trade "Time flies. 7 years in Oklahoma City, a place where I grew up, became the player I am today, competed with a great team and made great friends. A place I can call home. Thank you state of Oklahoma and your wonderful people. Thank you @okcthunder, staff, employees, teammates and fans. You will be in my heart forever."
