Free agent center Dwight Howard, 30 year old, has signed a three-year, $70 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks.
Howard had a good meeting with the Hawks on Friday, a source previously said. It was the Atlanta native's first meeting of the free-agency period.
"It was a really, really, really good meeting," the source said. "Very impressive. Dwight's going to look at all his options. But it went very, very well."
"I'm always interested in winning, but sometimes as a big you want to feel a part of what's going on," he said while appearing as a guest on TNT's "Inside the NBA" in May. "If I could bring the ball up the court and shoot threes, go between the legs and all that stuff then that'd be great -- but I have to rely on my teammates in certain aspects to get the ball. Now, there are times where I have been upset and I've taken myself out of games in situations -- and that's on me -- and I have to grow and be a better player. "
Eight-time All-Star center and five-time member of the league's All-NBA First Team, has seen his game slow down for the last few years.
Howard declined his $23.2 million player option with the Rockets on June 21, and at that point it was obviousthat he was interested in leaving Houston and pursuing new team to play for.
While Howard promptly reached a deal with the Hawks, worth slightly more per season than the one year, $23.3 million remaining on his Rockets contract that he opted to forgo, the Rockets worked to lure Al Horford.
