Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo looks to be inching closer to his return. The All-Star looked "aggressive" and "explosive" in a scrimmage held on Friday after practice, CelticsLife.com reports.
Rondo, who tore his ACL in January, has been hesitant to declare a timetable for his return. The Celtics' medical staff cleared Rondo on Dec. 15 to participate in full-contact practices, and he's been making use of it.
"Know a lot goes into returning to game action from ACL but must say Rajon Rondo looks aggressive, explosive, dominant in (Celtics) scrimmage," Scott Souza of the MetroWest Daily News tweeted on Friday.
Rondo organized a scrimmage after practice on Friday with teammates to help him readjust to playing again. The 5-on-5 included Jared Sullinger, Gerald Wallace and assistant coach Walter McCarty, according to MassLive.com.
The scrimmage lasted between 30 and 45 minutes.
"The main reason why I stepped out there was to help build (Rondo's) confidence for when he's back on the court," Sullinger told MassLive.
"This is basically us trying to get (Rondo's) wind and his rhythm back on the court," added Wallace.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens acknowledged Rondo is getting closer to playing again but admitted it probably wouldn't be until January.
"He won't play in games, is what I've been told, until after the first of the year," Stevens said last week, via ESPN. "And that still is, we're talking in big generalities there. I don't know when that means. It could mean a month from now, it could mean six weeks from now. There's a lot of different variables that have to be met for him to be cleared for games."
