Returning director Michael Bay took to the social media to reveal Drift's new image in the upcoming Transformer's 5. The picture shows the samurai Autobot getting an impressive makeover in his brand new automobile look.
On his Twitter page, Michael Bay posted a cool incognito look of Drift as a Mercedes AMG GT R. In the "Age of Extinction", Drift was one of Optimus Prime's five Autobot followers who went into hiding after the "Dark of the Moon" destruction.
Since then, the Decepticon Lockdown set out a massive campaign to apprehend every single Autobot in conjunction with the CIA unit Cemetery Wind. To evade capture, Drift morphed into a black and blue Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse and a Sikorsky S-97 Raider Helicopter.
For quite some time, the few remaining Autobots managed to avoid capture. Drift soon found himself rallying behind Optimus Prime and worked with Hound, Crosshairs and Bumblebee. In the Age of Extinction, Drift was pretty much an imposing figure which reflected his obvious samurai attributes, Cinema Blend reported. He was often noted for talking in haiku. Much to Bumblebee's annoyance, the samurai Autobot was quite fond of making himself a leader in Optimus Prime's absence. Despite their differences, the Autobots was united in their objective of keeping the Decepticons at bay while ensuring that Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his family are safe.
The recent makeover is quite interesting to note if comparisons are made between Bugatti and Drift's new AMG GT R. For one, Bugatti's price tag is estimated at $2 million while the new car starts at around $131,000 as per Collider. If the price is of any indication, one would wonder how some would consider the change as an upgrade.
Moreover, Bugatti's horsepower stands at around 1,100 compared to Mercedes' 600. However, automotive stats aren't significant as far the Transformer films are concerned. It all boils down to how awesome the cars look in the sci-fi movie.
The "Transformers: The Last Knight" will hit the big screen on June 23, 2017. A Bumblebee spin-off will be released afterward on June 8, 2018 followed by Transformers 6 on June 28, 2019
