'Top Gear' News: Chris Evans Bids Goodbye to ‘Top Gear’ in the Wake of Falling Ratings

Chris Evans, the radio DJ and new presenter of the popular BBC talk show 'Top Gear' has quit the program. And the news has come as a welcome relief for many viewers, who were reportedly not impressed with the new presenter.

Announcing his resignation, Chris said that he is stepping down from 'Top Gear' and gave it his best shot. He added ruefully that sometimes, best is not enough. The host revealed that he felt like standing aside was the single best thing he could do to help the cause.

And looks like many would agree with him on this front. He was clearly not the right fit to take forward the legacy of Jeremy Clarkson. He did try to give his best but it looks like this very thing did him in. He was trying too hard to sound like Clarkson, which made him look inauthentic. What should have been natural, felt forced.

No wonder, the audience rejected him and perhaps, Chris too realized it in time that he was not doing justice to the show. The ratings were going down and last Sunday night, the series hit the lowest, recording an average of 1.9 million viewers. And it seems the incident prompted Chris to take the step.

Notably, 'Top Gear' is one of the most popular BBC shows and it enjoys a huge following among the international audience too. Jeremy Clarkson was the lifeline of the show and the audience simply loved his trademark loud sense of humor. Chris Evans joined the show after his departure in June but the show's ratings started falling down.

As of now, the show continues with presenters Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris, who are successfully carrying on the show. The viewers also seem to be happy with them and it is expected that with Evans' exit, the viewership and ratings will be restored to the previous mark.

The next season of 'Top Gear' is likely to kick off with a new primary host and as a fan, one only hopes that the new host does not try too hard.
