Brock Lesnar is not the only big name to appear in 2K Sports' wrestling simulation video game series. This year, Bill Goldberg's legendary streak in pro wrestling gives him the privilege of becoming WWE 2K17's pre-order exclusive playable character- a rare deal reserved only for towering figures in the wrestling world.
In his recent interview, Goldberg revealed the process as to how he got the highly coveted game deal. The wrestling legend said that the developer had been negotiating with him for years. The developer had long wanted him to appear on the WWE 2K17 scene either as a cover athlete or as a downloadable character.
"Well I don't have to talk to anybody. I spoke to with 2K directly and they did all the interaction with the WWE. I don't think this year is any different than the rest except for that they checked off on it. 2K wanted me either as a cover or a downloadable character for a number of years, and I think time may have healed a little bit of the wounds and I think that's the only difference this year," said Goldberg in his Ring Rust Radio interview.
After being named as WWE 2K17's latest pre-order character, wrestling fans are wondering if the former WCW champion would accept any WWE comeback offer in the near future. The last part of the pre-order trailer seemed to hint a possible showdown with Lesnar (the game's cover star) as the preview showed him looking at a Suplex City sign. Whether or not a rematch with Lesnar will happen remains a big question.
Goldberg's match against Lesnar back in WrestleMania 20 was one of the most embarrassing in-ring shows that WWE wishes to erase from fans' memories. Both wrestlers put on a very awful fight so they were both booed out of the arena by an unforgiving audience, Games Radar revealed.
For now, Goldberg firmly indicated that he has no plans of signing a deal with WWE. His current relationship with WWE is largely pure business and for the video game only. Goldberg was also quizzed over the possibility of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in a recent interview. He replied there wasn't any attempt so far to contact him about a possible Hall of Fame induction.
"WWE has not called me to be a part of any roster. My relationship with WWE stands with the video game and the video game only. If they want to extend an olive branch and pick up the phone, then I will make a comment on that once they do it. But prior to that, nothing's been done," Goldberg said as quoted by 411 Mania.
