Since its release back in the 1996, Resident Evil remains one of the most enduring horror-themed survival game series. Despite ups and downs in its two decades of existence, the franchise continues to adapt and thrive.
The latest forthcoming title- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard- was unveiled at last month's E3 2016 in Los Angeles, California. Following the game's announcement, a PlayStation 4 demo was released and has since topped download records on the gaming console.
As reported by Game Spot, "Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour" became the most downloaded single-player PlayStation 4 demo in North America in the first week of its release. The teaser demo also posted 2 million downloads worldwide despite being limited only to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
"Beginning Hour" is the game's prologue. However, it will not be included in the full Resident Evil 7 Biohazard version featuring an entirely different main character. The report further said that the demo will contain unsolved mysteries to put gamers in a state of suspense.
With the demo's impressive download record, Resident Evil fans have been anticipating for the latest installment's release as excitement builds up regarding the game's plot details. The demo seems to have served Capcom and Sony well in terms of effectively marketing the game especially to new players.
"We would like to thank all our fans for the feedback and support - the nail-biting exploration and terrifying atmosphere in the demo is just a taste of what can be expected when the game releases on Jan. 24, 2017," said Capcom in a press release as quoted by PlayStation Lifestyle.
Meanwhile, more and more gamers are pretty engaged in a mission to break some of the demo's challenging mysteries including the dummy finger. Capcom recently teased Resident Evil fans that the upcoming sequel will give players more insightful experience in uncovering a number of unsolved mysteries. As per Vine Report, the answer to fans' endless queries may have to wait until the Tokyo Game Show this fall.
