If recent reports about the Galaxy Note 6/7 prove true, Samsung fans are going to be a disappointed lot.
According to Forbes, Samsung 's next Note offering will not feature Snapdragon 823, as was speculated earlier. Instead, it would feature Snapdragon 820, the chipset that powers Galaxy S7, which at the present time is the best phone hardware money can buy. The Snapdragon 820 is no laggard but for a device being launched nearly six months after the Galaxy S7, the demand for more is unlikely to be met in the chipset.
Latest reports are courtesy AnTuTu. The benchmarking website posted scores and features of the yet-to-be-launched device, with the model name SM-N930V. This variant, GSM Arena believes, could be Verizon variant. The listed features also included 4 GB RAM, 13 MP camera and a QHD screen.
Samsung Galaxy S7 was launched with near same specifications and has been received well. The device is also being credited with rise in sales; the company recently reported its second-quarter operating profit rose 17.4 percent from a year earlier. The reported April-June profit was 8.1 trillion won, up from 7.8 trillion forecasted by Reuters.
It is widely speculated that Samsung devised a series of marketing maneuvers to boost sales, including launch its devices ahead of Apple. The Note's marketing too is likely to benefit from these moves including skipping '6' and calling the phablet Note 7 to bring it in line with Galaxy devices. However, not making an offer with significant difference may not auger well for the South-Korean tech giant.
Another letdown for fans is the phablet could launch less RAM than 6 GB earlier speculated. Samsung's curved Edge display on Note may be the only saving grace on the device to set it apart from the already popular Galaxy S7.
