Larry the cat is the permanent resident at 10, Downing Street. He certainly isn't going to be part of David Cameron's future.
He will keep purring on in the PM's residence and welcome the new Prime Minister, Theresa May and her husband Philip.
The brown and white tabby rescue cat joined the patrol and the global press waiting outside No. 10 even as Cameron left.
Larry's senior was Humphrey, who retired in 1997 after he had caught a number of mice in the official residence.
Larry too was supposed to be a great rat-catcher, according to the animal shelter officials who gave him a glowing certificate.
"The former stray arrived at Downing Street on Feb. 15, 2011 - and promptly scratched a TV reporter and got busted trying to photobomb Kevin Spacey. But hey, he wasn't there for the convenience of the press. He was there to catch rodents!" comments npr.
However, the ironical truth was that he was slothful and sleepy---all the time! As the daily telegraph put it: "One source told a Sunday newspaper that Larry had done little but sleep since his arrival from Battersea Cats and Dogs home 10 days ago, stirring occasionally to scratch passing officials. Larry had even left hair on the Prime Minister's suits, the anonymous briefer complained."
He certainly made a guest appearance in Cameron's final Parliament Prime Ministerial speech. Cameron remarked that it wasn't true he was not fond of Larry. The cat had been brought to the Prime Ministerial residence from an animal shelter five years ago.
He mentioned that he wanted to put an end to the rumours that "somehow I don't love Larry. I do, and I have photographic evidence to prove it."
He held up the evidence---Larry lying on his lap.
Cameron said he felt sad that he had to leave him behind. "He belongs to the house and the staff loves him very much - as do I," he said.
