SpaceX successfully launched its Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral on July 18, Monday. After the successful launch and landing of the rocket, the company has a new target to achieve - launch three rockets at the same time.
The idea proposed by the private space company is a part of its Falcon Heavy project. It is a large rocket made up of three small rockets strapped together, which will allow it to travel faster and farther than a normal rocket.
According to the company, the Falcon Heavy project is expected to be launched by the end of 2016. As of now, SpaceX is planning to seek an approval from the regulatory agencies to build two extra landing pads at the Canaveral Air Force Station. Initially, the company may go for drone ship landings, however, they have a long-term vision, to recover all the three Falcon Heavy rockets.
The founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, explained in a statement that two of the three Falcon Heavy rockets would land simultaneously. On the other hand, the third rocket would arrive shortly after the first two.
The ultimate objective of SpaceX is to reduce space costs and develop space technology that can be reused. The company wants to achieve these objectives to make colonization of Mars a reality. As of now, the company has designed Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 vehicles, both of which are reusable. In addition, it has also designed the Dragon spacecraft, which is used to supply material and equipment to the International Space Station (ISS).
In addition to planning for the Falcon Heavy project and an expedition to Mars, SpaceX is planning to launch another rocket that will return to space after being recovered successfully. The launch of this rocket is scheduled for September 2016.
