In time for its 75th anniversary, the Wonder Woman trailer hits the San Diego Comic Con crowd over the weekend, the feminist-laden movie gracing the hugely-male film fest.
In the press conference held at Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center, Gal Gadot revealed that she drew inspiration from Princess Diana, the late Princess of Wales, in her rendition of Wonder Woman.
"She said she leads from her heart and not from her head. And I think the same is true of our Diana," the Israeli-born actress told the 6,000 crowd of the convention who also watched other competing films, another DC film, Suicide Squad and Marvel films.
Gadot attended together with director, Patty Jenkins, who also professed her love for Wonder Woman's character.
"The world needs love and forgiveness in such a huge way. [Wonder Woman] stands for being loving and amazing and being incredible," she said.
Based on its trailer, the superhero movie will be set in 1941 in the heights of World War II where Diana Prince, a member of a secret island of warrior women in the Amazon, would fight against the Nazis in a non-lethal way. Contrary to the 1970s Lynda Carter series, the 2017 film will strike a balance between grace and sword-wielding stunts. The film is also expected to be packed with energy contrary to David E. Kelly's depressing take on the 2011 series.
The heroine's unusual origin was also preempted in the trailer with Diana Prince's revelation that she was not born to human parents but from Zeus who made her from clay.
Traces of humor can also be deduced from Steve Trevor's 'neat line,' an element which deviates from the serious tone of the original movie. And of course, that witty sarcasm in Gadot's 'slavery' comment about Pine (Steve Trevor's secretary) who takes orders from her boss.
Meanwhile, aside from Wonder Woman, other superhero film trailers also debuted during the event including American Gods, Blair Witch, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Justice League, Kong: Skull Island, Luke Cage, Sherlock and Suicide Squad.
Wonder Woman will arrive theaters on June 2nd, 2017.
